MANSIONS OF GLORY IN SUICIDE MACHINES

December 12, 2005

born To run” is an exceptional song. ginawa ito ni springsteen nung 1974 kasama ang e-street band and it took them six months to record. six months to record just one song? packingsheet! kilala kasing obsessive compulsive perfectionist si the boss at kung ano anong mga special effects ang nilagay niya sa kantang ito – mayroong mga overdubs ng acoustic guitars, boses pa yata ng mga kabayong naglalampungan at kung ano ano pang mga instrumento. in fact, ang kantang ito ay classic example ng “wall of sound” style na ginawang popular ni phil spector. springsteen’s legendary dedication to his craft paid off dahil “born to run” is probably one of the best rock songs of all time. a masterpiece that still sounds fresh today as it was when it first came out exactly 30 years ago this year. besides the excellent production of the song, it’s the lyrics that really hits you. how can you fail with lines like this

Together Wendy we’ll live with the sadness
I’ll love you with all the madness in my soul

pag sinabi mo ito siguro sa gelpren mo eh baka bigla ka niyang ayain mag sex.

“born to run” is about freedom and escape. in my mind’s eye, nakikita ko yung character sa kanta na gustong makawala sa mediocrity ng kasalukuyan niyang katayuan sa buhay. perhaps he is springsteen who at that point was a young up and coming punk from new jersey. he may even be a young kid from novaliches who decides that he must make his move or else, gutom ang aabutin niya.

Baby this town rips the bones from your back
It’s a death trap, it’s a suicide rap
We gotta get out while we’re young
‘Cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run

alam niyang may talent siya at malayo ang mararating kung mabigyan lang ng break. but he knows he has to take the first step. in life you make your own luck. kung may gusto kang mangyari sa buhay mo, kailangan ikaw ang humanap ng paraan. tulad ng maraming tao who’ve made this song their anthem, nakikita ko yung sarili ko sa kantang ito – yung mga struggles ko sa buhay, yung aking mga hopes and dreams.

Someday girl I don’t know when
we’re gonna get to that place
Where we really want to go
and we’ll walk in the sun
But till then tramps like us
baby we were born to run

kung hindi ninyo type mag internalize sa lyrics, just get a copy of the song at patugtugin habang nakasakay sa isang mabilis na sasakyan, preferably, kotse na naka full volume yung sounds at pagtapos ay bukas ang bintana. now, that’s a totally different experience altogether.

may BORN 2 RUN PODCAST na kasama ang entry na ito para sa mga lumabo ang mga mata dahil sa sobrang pagsasaltik.

Si all-american rock singer – born in the USA Bruce Springsteen! Maiba ko bosing, I was watching Roy Orbison in a concert, akala ko lumang-luma na kasi black and white, tapos bigla kong nakita, isa sa mga nag-gigitara si Bruce Springsteen. PAra kong na time warp.

  2. hehehe… yung “a black and white night” special yon. it was one of the last concerts done by orbison. palabas nga rin yon kagabi sa cable at kakahiram ko lang ng DVD. one of the best concerts i’ve watched in a long time. bukod kay springsteen, naroon din si elvis costello, jackson browne, KD lang, bonnie raitt at marami pang ibang artist who just played in the background, letting their idol be the person in the spotlight. kung mabilis ang mata mo, makikita mo rin si billy idol sa audience.

    ang galing ano?

springsteen is known for his great 3 hr long concerts. most of the time longer. his record i believe is 5 hours for a marathon he did a while ago. you can really feel the passion in his performances. i remember the no nukes concert. springsteen was one of the better acts to have performed in the concert. i was telling my wife that we won’t miss him should he decide to tour southern california in the future.

    i hope he does.

  9. Barb Says:

  11. Barb Says:

Yep, he usually plays here, but it’s been a few years since he’s been on tour, I think. Anyway, tickets aren’t cheap!

  12. Barb Says:

As for snowstorms, I don’t know. I haven’t checked the news yet. Heehee. I don’t mind it when it snows because it’s warmer!

  13. Jet Says:
