THERE IS TIME TO KILL TODAY

December 11, 2005

Host : What is your favorite motto?
Contestant : (After a long pause) I don’t have a motto eh.
(So the crowd starts helping her out by whispering – “Time is gold! Time is gold!”)
Contestant : I have na po. Chinese gold!

dark side of the moon was released by pink floyd in 1973 and it stayed in the charts forever. well actually, it spent 741 weeks on the Billboard 200 (that’s over 15 years man). isa sa mga paborito kong kanta roon ay “time“. tungkol ito sa importance ng “living in the moment”.

Tired of lying in the sunshine
Staying home to watch the rain
And you are young and life is long
And there is time to kill today

marami kasi sa atin spend our time preparing for the future. kaya lang sa sobrang paghahanda sa kinabukasan eh nakakalimutan natin yung ngayon. hindi na tuloy tayo nakakapag enjoy. sinasabi nga ng kantang ito – the here and now is the most important part of your life. seize it or else magigising ka na lang isang umaga, matanda ka na’t nasayang nang buhay mo.

And then one day you find
Ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
You missed the starting gun

nung lumabas ito nung 1973, eight years old ako. inuwi ng kuya ko ang plaka sa bahay at pinakielaman ko. kahit supot pa ako nung time na iyon ay nagustuhan ko agad. this record has been part of my life all through my growing up years. from elementary to high school, from university hanggang sa tinubuan ako ng buhok sa kung ano-anong parte ng katawan.

And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun, but it’s sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you’re older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

ngayon, forty years old na ko, i still enjoy playing the entire record. chinese gold? you bet!

ang kalakip na CHINESE GOLD PODCAST na ito ay para sa mga visually impaired na tao at saka para na rin sa mga makapal ang muta.

    naku kuyang,
para sakin napaka halaga ng oras…para sa trabaho ko.

ahhh, d.s.o.t.m., one of the greatest rock albums of all time! laking pink floyd din ako boss, at sa buong buhay ko e naka 4 o 5 na dark side lps/cds ako.

did you already hear about the dark side’s magical interplay w/ the movie wizard of oz? if not, here’s how: start to play the cd on the 3rd time the lion (mgm’s mascot) turns it’s head at the beginning of the movie & then turn off the movie’s volume. whatever happens in the movie coincides with what’s being played or sung in the cd.

example: in ‘time’, we see the fortune teller’s sign that says ‘past, present, future’. in clare torey’s hysterical (but absolutely ravishing) vocals, we see dorothy panicking.

  3. ako, i’ve had 5. one long playing record, two tapes, one CD and one SACD Special Edition. part of the 400 million sold world wide. i was listening to it last night (sarado ang mga ilaw para mas maganda ng special effects) – it still sounds the same as when i first heard it. perhaps even better now because i understand the lyrics.

i have heard about the uncanny interplay of the wizard of oz with DSotM but have not tried it yet. i have both in DVD and SACD so i can probably play both and enjoy them on a different level. incidentally, i was also watching the wizard of oz last night (well parts of it) on TNT – right before i played the CD.

DSotM is in my top 5 list of greatest albums of all time.
