I am not a glutton – I am an explorer of food

June 16, 2005

CURRY FISH HEAD lumabas kami ngayon for dinner. literally sa labas kami kumain. oo virginia, sa kalye mismo. hindi naman delikado na nahagip ng kotse kasi may harang naman ang entrance. habang ngumunguya nga, naisip ko kanina – ang isang part ng charm ng singapore eh kahit cosmopolitan pa siya at ultra modern, in her heart of hearts, it is still a small town. dito kasi, pwede kang pumunta sa mga maliliit na turo-turo na nakakalat sa isla, upo ka sa lamesa at kumain ng mura pero masarap na pagkain any time of the day. kung alam mo ang mga lugar kung nasaan ang mga special food, hindi ka uuwi ng luhaan sa gabi. yang nasa picture ay isa sa mga paborito kong pagkain: “fish head curry”. ito ay ulo ng isda na niluto sa sampaloc at curry sauce na may sahog na gulay. simple lang pero bwakanginangyan, ang sarap. ulam namin ito kanina. sa sobrang sarap ng kain ko eh para ko ngang gustong itaas ang paa ko sa silya at magkamot ng tiyan. tapos sinamahan pa namin ito ng pepper crabs, shrimp paste fried chicken, ginisang veggies at panulak na cold barley drink. perfect meal baby especially since we were with good friends.

  6. hi ronald.

galing kay (the late) erma bombeck ang quote. she’s that funny american author cum suburban housewife. my wife loves her books. masarap ang fish head curry mypren. worth the trip to china town last night.

“Ever a glutton, at another’s cost,
But in whose kitchen dwells perpetual frost.”

  7. Hi Christine!

How’s Christchurch? It’s probably freezing since it’s winter. All the more reason to eat fish head curry!!!

    Ingat,

  8. hi darkblack. masarap na breakfast ang curry – hehehe. siguradong malilinis ang bituka mo, just in time as morning ritual.

  9. hi kat.

if ever you’re pushing through with your plan to visit australia or india, try to schedule a trip to singapore. you’ll get your fill of great fusion food. there are two kinds of fish head curry in singapore – the indian which is plain curry with fish. then there’s the malay-chinese-indian fusion fish head curry which has sampaloc as pang asim in addition to the curry. this is much much better.
