AIMLESS WALKING

May 31, 2002

aimless walking… another favorite after-career career. there’s nothing better than walking on a cool morning with just your nose to lead the way. where to go? (a favorite singapore phrase when the people here ask what to have for lunch) where to go indeed… wala lang. nowhere – here, there, anywhere. in my morning 20 minute jog – i just aimlessly wander and really don’t care where i end up… well, anywhere that will bring me back home in 20 minutes. i still have a career as an engineer, you know, and i have to be in the office by 8:30 – but after i’ve retired, 8:30 won’t mean a thing to me anymore.

my mom’s birthday

i am an aimless walker
on a clueless trip.
the wind blows behind me
but i’m a rudderless ship.

where will this lead me?
i surely don’t know.
it matters not really
since i don’t know where to go.

don’t fret my love
this is the way i feel
but i’m just talking about my morning jog, you see
so it’s really no big deal.

LADY CHATTERLY'S LOVER

May 24, 2002

i want to be a gardener. that’s my calling… well, maybe a part-time engineer on the side (for the extra cash). this is my dream job – but i cannot apply for it now because i am not qualified. to qualify for the position of gardener, one must have a sustainable retirement fund. this is only possible if i save up while i’m here in singapore. and it could take me 5 to 10 years.

let’s do the math… 5 to 10 years in singapore will guarantee me a good enough amount of cash for an early retirement. that will put my age to around 40-45 years old. i don’t think i’ll live to be 70 or 80. so, 45 plus 20 years is 65… a good enough age to permanently call it quits. it will give me 20 or so years to enjoy my retirement. not bad…

Vesak Day (actual day of celebration – 26 May 2002) is celebrated by Buddhists annually to commemorate the birth & enlightenment of Buddha and his entry into Nirvana.

The day starts with chanting of the sutras by saffron-clad monks, while devotees visit the temples to pray and meditate and to make offerings. Acts of generosity known as Dana are observed by Buddhist organizations and temples. These include the freeing of caged birds and animals, visiting and giving alms to the poor and needy, while some Buddhist youths organize mass blood donation at hospitals. The celebration concludes with a candlelit procession through the streets.

one of our class mates became an oblate priest… his name is ed santoyo. this is my tribute to him:

Top 10 List of what you should not say to Fr. Santoyo:

09. Father, mag-pamasahe tayo mamaya, ha…

08. Father, forgive me for I have sinned, nung high school tayo, ninakawan ko ang locker mo!

07. Father, forgive me for you too have sinned, nung high school tayo, sabi ni glen baldivia, ikaw raw ang pasimuno ng ingay at mga gulo eh.

06. Father, punta tayong Love Boat, may GRO doon na gustong mangumpisal…

03. Father, mura bang condom sa cotabato? hehehe…

02. Father, nasubukan mo na bang mag-wet dream?

and, the top 1 in our list of what not to say to Fr. Santoyo is….
01. Father, gusto mo ng Mother? hehehehe…

Good Luck to Father Ed – idol ko siya! sana makasama natin siya sa Pasko, para may mass muna bago inom, este, party…pero sabihin natin magdala rin siya ng exchange gift, ha. tapos, i-record natin sa video ang top ten list at panoorin natin during the party!

umuulan ngayon, first time in 2 weeks… medyo malakas nga eh. at least bumamba ang temp, kahit papano. sarap nga ng jogging ko kanina, wet and wetter.

good morning from singapore!

si basha anak ni dante at delilah ang lead singer ng “advent call”. if you remember during the pinoy rock days at rj, there was a station id from a very young kid’s voice that goes: “pinoy rock has got a lot of potential going for it, and i want to contribute to the music when the time comes. but you can start right NOW!” – si basha iyon. ngayon lead singer na gwaping at maraming chicks. si adam din na anak niya may punk na band din na tumutugtog sa nasirang club dredd nung araw. hehehe… nood nga kami ni egay ng concert nila sa club dredd for adams set, tapos lipat kami sa mayrics for basha’s set. all in one night.

Lifetime Achievement Award for my Brother Dante: NU107 Rock Awards, Introduction Speech…

by Cousin Hoagy, Dec 2001

Here’s a guy that began his radio career in the light of the Martial Law years. He was the neighbor of my cousin, Johnny in Pasay, near Park Avenue and Libertad. I always got along with him. He was a natural when he began his career at DzRJ in Santa Mesa.

He had one characteristic that makes a good rock jock. He loved music. He ate up everything going on. I remember him bringing me a record of American Country & Western from Nashville, Tennessee and begging to hear it on the air.

Howlin’ Dave spent much of the 1970s getting his chops down, announcing style and gaining a taste for PINOY ROCK which was a very important feature of life in Martial Law. When the show, “Pinoy Rock & Rhythm,” was developed by Charlie Brown and Double A. It was mainly about the live Pinoy Rock scenes that thrived in Olongapo City and Manila. Angeles City was still just putas.

T. TINIO

May 20, 2002

from clubdredd’s website

…1974 brought the first breakup of Juan dela Cruz, although some of the members kept on touring. Eventually, they all had a dispute with Dodie Gonzales, their manager, and the brother of Wally. However, Dodie owned the rights to the name Juan dela Cruz. So Mike and company (essentially the original band) got Bo Razon back and renamed themselves “T.Tinio”, which, although it sounds like it was meant to be an insult to Wally and Dodie (and no one believed it wasn’t), was actually from a Pampanggo manager they had had, named Teodoro Tinio, insists Mike to this day.

THE TUMOR IS ALIVE

May 15, 2002

Sinara agad nila ang tiyan ng ale at nag-apologize for the wrong diagnosis.

Yung pagkain ko rin medyo controlado ko na ever since dumating ako from the Philippines last February. Kadalasan Seafood Soup. Hehehe… wala kasing fruit soup dito eh. Seafood Fruit? Wala rin. Sea Coconut na Dessert meron!  I digress.

A PASSAGE TO INDIA

May 3, 2002
